CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Rocsand Bocanegra, aged 42, was charged with second-degree homicide for allegedly stabbing 58-year-old Jess Smith. Monday in the 700 block of Mitchell Court.

Deputies responded to a report of a stabbing at about 5:30 a.m. on Aug. 8th.

Bocanegra fled the scene before deputies arrived.

She was in a northern Cheyenne parking lot the next day and taken into custody.

Law enforcement says the two were acquaintances and that the crime happened in Smith’s residence.

There were about six other witnesses in the house when the crime occurred.

“We’re very fortunate here in Laramie County that we don’t experience a large number of homicides. But when they do occur, they become our highest priority, and we focus all of our resources and expertise toward resolving them,” said Capt. Kevin James, Laramie County Sherriff’s Office.

Law enforcement says there are about 0 to four homicides annually in the city and county of about 100,000.

The previous homicide before Bocanegra was also perpetrated by a female.

Officials say Bocanegra will be due in court once the probable cause affidavit is forwarded to the d-a office for charges.
