CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - A Casper garden shop will celebrate its grand opening this weekend. The concept stemmed from a veteran using gardening and aquaponics to help battle his symptoms of PTSD.

Budd Pitt is working to make hydro and aquaponics more accessible in Wyoming. After learning about the food growing techniques on YouTube, he decided to make his own system.

Now, Pitt wants to help others by bringing a store centered on aqua and hydroponics to Casper. He says they will make it easier for Wyomingites to access the supplies they need, and they won’t try to oversell or upsell to customers.

“I do hope people realize that they don’t have to order all this stuff from online, from Colorado, Utah, they can now order it from here in Wyoming,” said Pitt.

Hydroponics is the cultivation of plants without using soil. Hydroponic flowers, herbs, and vegetables are planted in inert growing media and supplied with nutrient-rich solutions, oxygen, and water.

Aquaponics is a combination of hydroponics and aquaculture, growing fish and other aquatic animals, that creates a sustainable, self-sufficient system.

“It grows 2 to 3 times faster than anything in soil... And we need this now more than ever because our economy and our produce is not the greatest produce. My goal is to help this community and spread it out through Wyoming and we’re gonna do it,” said Pitt.

The store, 4 Seasons Garden Supply, will not only offer supplies, but Pitt hopes, they can support others interested in hydro and aquaponics through mentoring. He has already given demos on how to create aquaponic systems for organizations around Wyoming, and he plans to reach new audiences by giving presentations at schools, including Casper College.

“I’ve got quite a few people interested. When I tell them they say, ‘oh there’s no way,’ but there is a way and it’s not that difficult,” said Pitt.

4 Seasons will celebrate its opening at the store, located at 5104-A CY Ave, all day Saturday, July 30. To mark the occasion, they will be raffling off a grow tent, which supports an indoor garden in an enclosed space.
