Kelly Walsh Booster Club hosts sixth annual Trojan Classic Golf Tournament
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - If you were hanging out at Three Crowns Golf Club in Casper on Wednesday, there was a strong likelihood that you were sporting some green and white. The Kelly Walsh Booster Club was hosting its annual Trojan Classic Golf Tournament to support students at the high school.
John Sheaff, Kelly Walsh’s athletic director, said the Booster Club allows Trojan athletics to “do what they do.”
“They raise all sorts of money for us,” said Sheaff before finding out whether his swing was correct for the day. “They help us out with concession stands running those, and they make my life easy when it comes to those things.”
The Kelly Walsh band was on hand for the festivities. It was providing plenty of pep before golfers hit the links.
Players were divided into four person teams for a scramble. There were a number of Kelly Walsh alumni, faculty and even a few current students ready to compete and support the Trojans.
Mike Devereaux, a 1981 Kelly Walsh graduate and 1995 Major League Baseball World Series Champion, made the trip back to his hometown to support his alma mater.
“It’s great to see all my friends that I grew up with,” said the 1995 NLCS MVP. “I miss everybody, and it’s always good to come back here and see how the city has changed and also see how it’s been the same.”
The former 12-year big leaguer said, “It’s a special thing to be a Kelly Walsh Trojan and part of Casper, Wyoming.”
He also added that Kelly Walsh is “an incredible school,” and he was impressed to see what they’ve done since he’s graduated.
Football, tennis and golf practices will begin for Kelly Walsh on Aug. 8.
