Gillette takes Legion Baseball Class C State Championship
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Sunday marked the (potentially) final day of the Legion Baseball Class C State Championship, with the potential of it getting extended to Monday a possibility. In order for that to happen, the winner of Cheyenne vs Casper would have to beat Gillette, setting up a tiebreaker game the following day at Powers Field.
Despite Casper taking an early 1-0 lead, the Indians rallied back to clinch a win and their spot in the finals, locking in a rematch of Saturday’s 1-0 contest between Cheyenne and Gillette. That game was again close, but in a very different way.
The Indians claimed an 8-2 lead going into the bottom of the fifth inning, before Gillette hit their stride. They rattled off eight runs in that half inning alone, and worked their way into a walk-off walk to end the tournament as champions. Ethan Lemke earned the MVP honors, while Sheridan was given the Sportsmanship Award.
Final: Cheyenne 6 Casper Black 1
Final: Gillette 13 Cheyenne 12
