Sixers take both Sunday games to win the Mountain West World Series
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Sixers entered Sunday with a 4-0 record across the tournament, fresh off of victories against the Billings 406 Flyers and Rocky Mountain Oysters. With how the rest of the tournament turned out, they wound up playing those teams once again in order to win the weekend.
The afternoon started against the Flyers, where Cheyenne found success early on. Six runs made their way to the scoreboard for Post 6, four of those coming before the Sixers ever recorded a base hit. Mason Tafoya recorded the most RBIs for his team, claiming two runs scored in the outing.
Trenton Rodriguez had a comfortable showing on the mound, allowing no hits and three walks to go along with 11 strikeouts over five innings. The Sixers took a comfortable 10-0 victory to open up their day.
Next was their clash with the Oysters, where Post 6′s pitching continued to dominate early. Sixers pitcher Bailey Applegarth went through three innings of perfect baseball, and managed to throw all seven innings despite two rain delays during the contest.
Rocky Mountain did find a few runs, though. They commanded a 2-1 lead headed to the bottom of the sixth, before Cheyenne’s Kelden Hastings drove in two to recapture the lead and another victory.
The Sixers finished the weekend 6-0, while raising their season record to 49-9.
Post 6 will remain at Powers Field for their next game, as the Westco Zephyrs are scheduled for a 5 PM start time on July 12.
