CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - You may be used to seeing basketball players from the University of Wyoming and Laramie County Community College running up and down the court, but they were given the chance to turn their coaching brains on for a day.

UW and LCCC basketball players spent their Saturday at East High School, where they hosted a basketball camp with the Boys and Girls Club of Cheyenne.

Throughout the camp, players led drills for the kids, teaching them the fundamentals of basketball and having fun along the way. While the kids got the experience of training with collegiate athletes, players like UW’s Jeremiah Oden knew that the event’s meaning could reach far beyond the sport of basketball.

“Just being able to give back and just kinda like make the kids days, or you know make their years, maybe. You never know what these kids have going on in their life, so to just be able to give them this escape to just be able to come here, it’s amazing,” said Oden.

The camp was open to both club and community members between the ages of six to eighteen, with kid’s taking home a t-shirt and a water bottle along with their new training.
