CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - On the evening of Wednesday June 29, 25 cyclists and crew members from Pi Kappa Phi fraternities across the US stopped in Casper.

“Kind of every day getting on the bike even if it’s a super long day you know that you’re doing it to experience hardships that you have to get through and it’s awesome eventually coming back to the friendship visits getting to meet so many new people,” said cyclist Charles Marconi.

The group is one of two Journey of Hope teams traveling across the country from Seattle to Washington D.C. During the summer cycling trip. The team dedicates time to connect with people with disabilities in each state they visit.

In Casper the team had a Friendship Visit at NOWCAP Services where they played games and enjoyed dinner with NOWCAP clients.

NOWCAP was one of the first community action agencies in the country. It’s original goal was to help combat poverty, but over the years it has grown and diversified. In Natrona County NOWCAP Services, an offshoot of NOWCAP, is a provider of services for people with disabilities. The organization provides housing options, day services, and intensive supportive living services for people in Casper and Rock Springs.

“It shows us how lucky we are and how capable we are of being able to do other things. It’s amazing and to be able to make them smile, that’s my whole thing, is everyone deserves to be happy and to smile, so being able to hang out with these kids or older people it’s amazing,” said crew member Fernando Cortes.

The Journey of Hope teams will raise more than $400,000 to support people with disabilities.
