Upton’s Luca Brooks wins 2022 Mr. Wyoming Basketball
UPTON, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - After taking a year off, the Mr. Wyoming Basketball award made its triumphant return this year. Upton’s Luca Brooks is the 2022 Mr. Wyoming Basketball.
The senior helped lead the Bobcats to back-to-back 1A state championships this season. He averaged 19.7 points, 6.3 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game to lead his squad this year.
The Rocky Mountain College basketball commit found out that he had won the award at this past weekend’s Wyoming-Montana Basketball All-Star Games.
“It was an honor honestly because I didn’t even know they started announcing achievements,” said Brooks. “Like I just started hearing them and I just realized that it was me, so it was a great feeling.”
The 2022 Mr. Wyoming Basketball moved to Upton from Las Vegas three years and promptly made three All-State teams. He finished his Wyoming high school career with 1,368 points, and his teams only lost five games over three years. Brooks said it felt “great” to bring this award back to Upton.
“I’ve only been there for three years, but it feels like home to me.”
Brooks credited his mom, Christina, with helping him with “everything” over the years. “She played a big role [for me],” said Brooks with a big smile. “You guys don’t even know.”
Congratulations to Mr. Brooks and his family.
