Ringside Sports dedicates ‘Kerry Seid Locker Room’ at Arena Training Institute
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - In March 2022, Kerry Seid passed away after a long battle with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer). Seid was a longtime referee and coach in Cheyenne and he was known for his love of sports.
“I think for him it was a release from normal daily life and the comradery and shared amongst people who enjoy the same games or the same activities,” said Kerry’s son Christopher Seid. “He was just an amazing dude.”
Soon before he passed away, just like he would do when there was no coach for a team, Kerry Seid stepped up for his community. Cheyenne organization Ringside Sports was starting up an equipment locker room so that kids could get sports gear that they do not have access to, and Seid made a donation.
“The first pieces of gear that we got in to the locker room was stuff from Kerry,” said Ringside Sports owner Janell Mellish. “We have hundreds of softballs and that’s from Kerry and so already his gear is in the hands of kids in Cheyenne.”
In honor of Seid’s life and donation, Ringside Sports officially opened, dedicated, and named the locker room to the “Kerry Seid Locker Room” on June 16.
“[People] can donate [gear] and the kids can pick it up free of charge and they can get as much as they want, there’s no questions asked and then we will give them a book with Kerry’s legacy in it,” said Mellish.
Seid’s son Christopher said the locker room fit perfectly with what his father was all about.
“[I want people to remember my dad’s] love for kids and family, and family includes people that are not your blood,” said Christopher Seid.
The locker room is located inside Arena Training Institute at 509 W. Lincolnway in Cheyenne. The locker room is mostly accessed by appointment and you can view and request gear by visiting ringsidesports.org.
