CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - On Monday, June 20, a ninety-year-old Casper man celebrated his birthday and invited the community to celebrate with him.

Dana Van Burgh has lived in Casper his entire life. For 38 years he taught earth science at Dean Morgan Middle School before helping to start the field science programs at Casper College. Dana wore a yellow lab coat, honoring his many years of teaching science.

He hosted his birthday celebrations at the Rialto Soda Fountain in Downtown Casper, complete with ice cream. Attendees were asked to sign a guest book and share their memories of Dana. His daughter will read the memories to him after the celebrations.

“Just to see the turnout of former students has been great. Teachers that he taught with, teachers that he taught up at the college, and we’ve also had some people just saw it they’re passing through and they wanted their kids to tell a ninety-year-old man who’s part of this community happy birthday,” said Dana’s daughter Christine Van Burgh.

Friends, colleagues, past students, and passersby spent time talking to Dana and reminiscing on the impact he’s had on the community and in individual lives.

Dana invited anyone to stop by the Rialto Soda Fountain to have ice cream and celebrate until 6:00 p.m.
