CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The rodeo rolled on in Casper on Thursday. It was the third night of performances at the College National Finals Rodeo inside the Ford Wyoming Center.

The top 12 in each event qualify for Saturday’s championship round, and the tension continued to build with that top dozen becoming clearer and clearer every night.

Brice Patterson, a bareback rider from the University of Wyoming, was up to the task on Thursday. He hopped in the saddle of his horse, Good Times, and did not look like he was having a good time before being let loose.

“We like to call that our grrr face,” explained Patterson. “I guess it’s the last cry make you before you go out for war. A war or a fist fight is about as close as you can describe a bareback ride.”

Patterson was able to achieve a 70.5 ride on his ride, which put him in the eighth spot before the final round of performances on Friday.

Austin Hurlburt, a fellow UW Cowboy, also made his marks on Thursday. The steer wrestler posted a 5.1, which moved him into the top four in the country in steer wrestling.

“The only thing I can really remember is nodding my head and then the crowd going wild,” said Hurlburt about his performance. “It was the greatest feeling I think I’ve ever had. It was pretty fun.”

The final night of performances will begin on Friday at 7 p.m at the Ford Wyoming Center. For full results from Thursday’s performances, visit here.
