CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -

Today started with warm temperatures. Cheyenne began the day with temperatures in the 60s, while Casper started in the 50s. Skies started off very clear and sunny. This has allowed temperatures to quickly warm up within the SE corner. The rest of the state is getting a cool off from a cold front pushing across the Cowboy State today.

Throughout the morning and into the afternoon, smoke made its way into the SE corner of Wyoming. There were several concerned calls and messages sent to the station, but ultimately there is no real reason to worry. The smoke is coming from a wildfire in Flagstaff, Arizona. Winds moving from the SW United State is carrying the smoke through Colorado and into the SE corner of Wyoming. It is likely that the smoke will clear out by this evening. There is an Air Quality Alert until 9PM tonight.

That cold front is going to keep moving across the state this afternoon and this evening. The front is leading showers and heavy cloud coverage. Some of the showers have a chance of becoming severe, especially within the NE corner. Heavy rain, gusty winds, and small hail are likely. A risk of tornados cannot be ruled out for some of those pockets of showers. Showers will continue through this evening and turn scattered early tomorrow morning. Fast post-frontal winds will pick up speed tomorrow to help move the rest of this system out of state. Partly to mostly cloudy skies will start the day Wednesday, but the winds will help clear those out as well.
