Casper College ranked as number 1 small community college veterans program in the country
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - With Wyoming having one of the highest veteran population percentages in the country it makes sense that colleges here would have some of the best veteran programs in the nation. In fact Casper College has the Number 1 rated veteran program among all small community colleges in the US. Casper College was also the first Community College to be ranked as a top 5 finalist against all other collegiate vet programs in the nation.
Casper Colleges Veteran and Military Student Services Coordinator, Nick Whipps, said, “So this year we received the great honor of being named the number one military friends small community college in the country, and that was such a cool thing because we pride ourselves in providing an atmosphere for students to come to Casper College and succeed.”
The program recently opened up a new multi purpose room in the colleges Walter H. Nolte Gateway Building. This area will be the Veterans Resource Center and will be a safe place for vets to hang out and meet other veterans. They will also have two study areas in this new office.
“We want to do everything in our power to provide a space, and to provide an atmosphere to where anybody in our community can come and feel welcome and all of our students can not only be successful but thrive here at Casper College and when they leave,” said Nick.
The Veterans program also works outside of the college in the Casper community. This is to help get vets involved in the community and potentially help them find jobs after college. One way the program will be reaching out is by hosting a traveling memorial. They will also be holding a military appreciation BBQ that is open and free for Casper vets to attend.
