SOUTH COACHING MOVES: Steele retires, Moyte and DeBruyn hired
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (CHEYENNE SOUTH RELEASE) -The following is an email press release from South Athletic Director Mark Puev:
Departing South High School:
Casey Steele- Head Cross Country, Indoor Track, & Boys Outdoor Track:
Cheyenne South High School is announcing that Coach Casey Steele will be retiring from his multiple coaching positions. Over the past seven seasons he has been the head coach for the Indoor and Outdoor Track programs. He took over as the head Cross Country coach four years ago. Before taking over as the head Cross Country coach, he was the assistant coach for three years.
Coach Steele came to Laramie County School District at the start of the 2009-10 school year and again beginning 2014-15 school year for the second time in his career. He has been a special education teacher and speech pathologist during his time at LCSD1 for ten years.
Before coming to Cheyenne, he taught and coached in Huron, SD, Riverton, Dubois, Jackson, and Pinedale. Coach Steele was head Cross Country and Track Coach in Riverton and was head Boys and Girls Indoor Track Coach at East High. Coach Steele was Head Girls Outdoor Coach at East too. In his last year at East, his girls were State Indoor Track & Field Champions, and he was voted Coach of the Year. Coach Steele’s coaching career began in 1982 as a graduate assistant at St. Cloud State University in St. Cloud, MN.
Coach Steele is originally from Aberdeen, SD and ran Cross Country and Track for Northern State University in his hometown. He is married to Ann Steele and together they have 6 children and 5 grandchildren.
Coach Steele has been an important part of South’s athletic culture while here. He has been willing to do virtually anything to help not only the athletes in his programs, but anywhere needed within the athletic department. He is a tremendous role model for the student-athletes at South High School and will always be appreciated for all his hard work and dedication.

Madeline Moyte: Head Cheer Coach
Cheyenne South High School is pleased to announce that Madeline Moyte will be taking over the cheerleading program as head coach at Cheyenne South High School. Madeline is an alumnus of South High School and cheered from 2011-2013. She was a part of the 1st ever State Champion team. Madeline has also been an assistant coach with the Bison for the past nine seasons. Throughout this time, she has been able to assist in earning multiple trophies and state championships and looks forward to continuing the legacy that has been built for South Cheerleading. We are thrilled to welcome Coach Moyte as a head coach to the South Athletic Department and look forward to the future of the South High Cheerleading program.
Chad DeBruyn: Head Boys Basketball Coach
Cheyenne South High School would like to welcome Chad DeBruyn as the new head boys’ basketball coach. Chad will replace Jeff Bailey who stepped down after four years in the same position.
Chad has been in the Laramie County School District since 2004 and has been a Social Studies teacher at South since 2011 when the school opened. He has coached both boys’ and girls’ basketball at various levels and was part of two state championship teams at Cheyenne Central High School. Before coming to Cheyenne, he also taught and coached in Yuma, Colorado.
Chad is originally from Rawlins and attended the University of Wyoming. He and his wife, Christine, have two sons Mark and Michael.
