Weather Calming Down
17 May 2022
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - There was a lot of thunderstorm activity with a number of lightning strikes especially in the southern border of Wyoming earlier in the afternoon. A few turned severe, but none lasted all that long. The storms had the potential for some small hail as well as some strong gusty winds. Most of that activity should move out by the late evening hours and remain calm going into early tomorrow morning. Do expect a little bit more in terms of cloud cover throughout the day while Thursday is expected to bring more shower activity from the north west.
The good news is that wind gusts will only pick up in during the times of the thunderstorms during tomorrow, but really begin picking up on Thursday as that new cold front begins pushing through. Expect wind gusts to get over 50 mph and cause a number of partial closures on the major interstates. Overnight tonight, the cloud cover sticking around will result in temperatures being above average with most cities looking at those mid 40s.
With mostly clear skies expected throughout the day tomorrow temperatures will be warming up into the mid to upper 70s with possible 80s in the Nebraska panhandle. An increase in our shower activity will be prevalent as we head to the end of the week at all as well as a big drop in our temperatures. Models have changed up a bit showing the chance for some mix precipitation more so on Friday and Saturday rather than heavy snowfall. We will be sure to keep you updated as new information becomes available.
