CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - After an extensive national search, the Food Bank of Wyoming is excited to announce that Rachel Bailey is the organization’s new executive director.

“I’m really excited to be able to contribute by helping the Food Bank of Wyoming distribute food, and work with all of our partners to nourish people’s bellies,” said Bailey.

Bailey has worked in Central Wyoming as a nonprofit executive director and campaign organizer for over a decade. From her grassroots campaign work for the American Cancer Society to her time as the executive director of the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra, Bailey’s work has centered on fostering community and connectivity across Wyoming. She transformed the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra through partnership building, relevant program creation, volunteer recruitment, and donor stewardship.

“My former role at the Wyoming Symphony Orchestra as the executive director there I think really prepared me to move into this organization and be able to help continue to nourish the community not with music but with food,” said Bailey.

Her marketing and business work took her from San Francisco to London and involved travel throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa to hone her business expertise. But Bailey grew up in Wyoming and missed the wide-open plains and mountains and being part of a community. When she returned in 2009, she sought opportunities to use her skills to help make Wyoming a better place to live, work, and play.

Bailey is currently transitioning into her role through training and meeting with partners across the state to learn how the food bank can better serve the needs of communities around Wyoming.

Nearly 68,000 people in Wyoming face hunger and there is no end in sight. Food Bank of Wyoming distributed more food than ever before in 2021 – over 13 million pounds. To meet this demand for food assistance, the Food Bank plans to double down on strengthening work with partners and community members across the state with Bailey’s visionary leadership at the helm.

“Looking to the future, I just really want to create an organization that serves all communities across Wyoming effectively and respectfully,” said Bailey.
