Warm and Thunderstorms
16 May 2022
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - After a very warm start to our week with a number of cities getting into those 80s, lots of showers and thunderstorms came into our state with a number of them producing heavy rain, lightning and thunder. This is due to a stationary front with two little pressure system sitting over top of us and a cold front just to the north west. This will cause summer shower activity and cloud cover to remain with us throughout much of tomorrow and some of it turning severe in the southeast by the late afternoon. After that, this cold front looks to be the main dominant feature before a much stronger one pushes through late in the week.
The good news is that wind gusts are expected to be relatively calm until those thunderstorms begin popping up once again tomorrow afternoon. This looks to be the pattern as only the strong winds come back into the forecast alongside those showers. Due to the increase in shower activity as well as cloud cover, expect overnight low temperatures to be well above average in the 40s and 50s.
Because this frontal system is going to be sitting over top of us for a bit, expect temperatures to begin dropping off tomorrow with more of those upper 60s and lower 70s. The next big change in the forecast is going to be Thursday heading into Friday as a cold front comes through and will be dropping off temperatures big time. Everyone else looks to be in that similar kind of pattern with the chance for snow popping back up with this next system.
