CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - When preparing for deployment, Wyoming Air National Guard Civil Engineers train to be ready at a moment’s notice.

“Our missions are generally base maintenance and base set up. So when we deploy, this is what we do in a deployed environment. We will actually build a base from nothing. Using all these tents and various systems,” said Master Sgt. Bradly Kechter, Structures NCOIC,153D Civil Engineers Squadron, Wyoming Air National Guard.

Training begins in the classroom, but these guardsmen and women were out at F.E Warren Air Force Base practicing for emergency situations on Friday.

The first thing they need to do is build a base that would provide shelter.

“We do some training with our troops and teach them our contingency assets that we don’t have access to on our normal training weekends with the Wyoming Guard. F.E. Warren has these assets, so we come here and we’re working and partnering with F.E.Warren to further our contingency training,” said Master Sgt. Justin Watt, Electric Shop, 153D Civil Engineers Squadron, Wyoming Air National Guard.

These structures are built when the service members are deployed in natural disaster zones. They are completely functional with electricity and running water.

These exercises are done a few times a year to keep the guardsmen and women ready for any emergency call.

“What they do out in the field is exactly what we do here as well. So we have a team of plumbers, we have a team of carpenters, we have electricians, and we all come together to actually put a mission together,” said Master Sgt. Joel Nyapolla, Electric Shop, 153D Civil Engineers Squadron, Wyoming Air National Guard.
