WYDOT open Grand Avenue i-80 bridge
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - As construction season starts, WYDOT is opening one of their bridges ahead of schedule.
“It is completed. They are still I believe still taking down some of the shoring some of the barriers and opening up some of the lanes to traffic. But umm as of right now the column has been fully repaired and it is operational for live traffic,” said Andrea Staley, Senior Public Relations Specialists- WYDOT.
In January, the Grand Ave., I-80 interchange bridge in Laramie was damaged when it was hit during a snow event. The eastbound off-ramp was closed at exit 316.
They expedited the design and bidding process and were able to open 3 weeks ahead of time. The bridge was originally scheduled to be opened on May 31st.
“We’re thankful for everybody’s patience through that. I know it felt like a long time for the locals that were traveling out that way. But we really did get it done as quickly as we could,” said Staley.
Designers added extra re-enforcement to withstand any future incidences.
As always, WYDOT asks folks to pay attention to construction workers and work zone speeds. WYDOT is working to help make roads better and safer for everyone.
