Kelly Walsh Band Students sign college scholarships
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - On Wednesday May 11, fifteen Kelly Walsh High School students signed their college scholarships to further their musical careers. Nine of the fifteen Trojans who signed committed to the University of Wyoming to play in the Western Thunder Marching Band.
The other six students who signed committed themselves to other colleges both across the state and across the nation. Some of the colleges closer to home included Casper College, Northwest College, and University of Northern Colorado. Other students signer their scholarship letters to Boise State, University of Arizona, and even The University of Southern California.
“We always say around here that we hope that we can give the kids the skill set they need to go on and play past high school if they desire to. So to have this many kids choosing to go play music in college and band specifically makes us feel like they’re being prepared to do that,” said the Trojans Band Director, Brent Rose.
Band directors hope that recognizing graduating seniors by holding these signing days will help show other students that they can also follow their dreams of playing music in college if that’s what they desire to do.
