CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Kelly Walsh’s Rachel Evenson made it two Trojans that will be on the University of Wyoming cheerleading team next fall. Evenson signed her letter of intent to cheer on the Cowboys and Cowgirls on Thursday in front of family and friends.

Evenson was a member of the Kelly Walsh dance team during high school and helped bring home two state titles at State Spirit this year. The Trojan dancer has been dancing for 16 years and has also played soccer and track.

“I think it’s all like prepared me as like an athlete, and so it’s all kind of pitched in a little bit to help be ready for cheer,” said Evenson during her press conference after putting pen to paper.

The idea to try out for the University of Wyoming cheer squad came from one of Evenson’s tumbling classes.

“I have some of the Kelly Walsh cheerleaders in there, and they were like, ‘Ya know, you could just try out.’ And I was like, ‘Okay,’” said Evenson while reenacting the intrigued look on her face. “So they helped me out tumbling [and] practicing some stunts and stuff and went down to Laramie and made the team.”

Evenson said she likes that Laramie is “close to home” and is excited for the transition from an emphasis on dance to cheer.

She said she plans on studying pre-med in Laramie. Congratulations to Rachel Evenson and her family.
