CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - With warmer temperatures coming into the Cowboy State, you may see more people out and about. The Natrona County School District is reminding drivers to pay attention during their morning commutes.

“Just making sure that we are watching out for those kiddos. They are excited. The warm weather gets us all excited with that spring energy so we just want to make sure that safety is the up most importance for drivers in our community,” said Tanya Southerland, the Director of Public Relations for NCSD.

The school district says it is especially important to pay more attention in school zones and around bus stops. When the red lights are flashing on a bus and the stop sign is out, drivers must stop.

And it’s not just drivers who should be paying attention. NCSD is reminding parents and guardians to educate their children about the importance of being aware of their surroundings.

“Often times you’ll see maybe kiddos looking at their cell phones while they’re walking on the sidewalk or something along those lines. So as parents and guardians, we can just really encourage our kiddos be aware of their surroundings, look up from the cell phones, maybe put them in their backpack or wherever,” said Southerland.

The school district recommends having your child walk with a friend or sibling on their daily commute if possible. NCSD also wants to reminds those students who are biking or skating to school to wear the appropriate safety gear.
