CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Taco John’s, Jonah Bank of Wyoming, and Grace for 2 Brothers will hold a media-press day on Thursday, April 28th at 10:30 am that the Taco John’s headquarters, in efforts to spread awareness for their annual suicide prevention fundraiser.

Wyoming’s suicide rate is double the national average and more than triple the lowest rate of any other U.S. State or territory. According to SAVE.org, in 2020 Wyoming ranked number 1 per capita, in suicide deaths in the United States (31.3 per every 100,000 people). Additionally, Wyoming has led the nation in suicide since 2018 and has been in the top 5 since 2014.

Suicides not only leave communities grieving, but they also have financial and economic impacts as well. Exposure to just one suicide effects an estimated 135 people, with 6 of those have major life disruptions. Each suicide costs an average of $1.5 million in lost productivity and medical costs.

In efforts to curb this grim statistic, participating Taco John’s and Jonah Bank locations will be accepting donations from May 1st – May 31st. One-hundred percent of the money donated will go directly to awareness and prevention efforts.

Wyoming businesses are also encouraged to donate. Small businesses that donate $200 or more at Jonah\ Bank locations will be entered into a drawing for free a catered lunch, courtesy of Taco John’s.
