Laramie County Community College Talon Talks showcases students Wednesday night
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - If you love Ted Talks, then you’ll love Talon Talks.
The Laramie County Community College is holding its second annual student speech competition on Wednesday.
Even though Talon Talks is a relatively new platform for LCCC, it allows students to explore public speaking and speak on topics they are passionate about.
“It doesn’t matter where you are. You use public speaking. So to be able to take something they are passionate about, share it through their degree and actually kind of showcase it...Super awesome,” said Jen DeRouchey, Communication Faculty Member-LCCC.
Laramie County Community College’s Communication Department is holding the competition at the Surbrugg- Prentice Auditorium or SPA.
Students can win scholarships, swag and textbook scholarships by joining the talk.
Speeches range from the Corral Reef to Self-Image and Character.
Competing students come from every department, from Agriculture to Music and Psychology.
“Public speaking isn’t a one size fits all. Again you can use this in several different venues, several different avenue its crossed all disciplines. So being able to take that away from it. But also know that our students they have opinions they have thoughts and they just want you to hear about ‘em, “said DeRouchey.
The showcase is open to the public and starts at 6 p.M. on April 27th.
Talon talks allow students to take the skills they learn through public speaking into whatever future career they may choose.
