CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Tuesday April 26, Casper’s City Council met and approved the 8 million dollar purchase of a new facility for the Casper Police Department. The city currently rents space from the Natrona County Sheriff’s office to house the Police Department but the staff has outgrown the capacity of the space.

“The primary facility that the police department is located in has met it’s useful life for us. We’re bursting at the seams in that building, we’ve got people stashed in closets to conduct police operations,” said Casper City Manager Carter Napier.

The City looked at a few options before making their final decision on the Casper Business Center as the new home of the CPD. Councilman Steve Cathey noted some of the other locations that included the old Casper Star Tribune building and they even considered building a whole new development which was appraised at almost 50 million dollars.

Councilperson Amber Pollock stated, “It’s important that the public knows that there’s been a tremendous amount of time that has gone into this evaluation. Many, many options were considered.”

The Council also decided to lease portions of the Business Center to Mountain West Technologies, who are already housed in the building. The company will be able to rent the space while they plan to move into a larger headquarters.
