Prep Athlete of the Week: Richard Prescott
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Richard Prescott won four events at the Okie Blanchard Track & Field Invitational on Friday in Cheyenne. Prior to this meet, the Central junior had never won more than two events at a meet in his career
“You know, I woke up and I was just ready to go,” said Prescott. “My mom was out of town. I was like, gotta get one for her. I don’t know...I had a Bang Energy Drink, maybe that did something, and then I was just feeling good. "
Richard started the day with the triple jump and faulted on his first jump. But, after talking with his dad, Richard said he felt better. He won the triple jump (44 ft. 9.5 in.) by more than two feet.
Richard then won the 110 Meter Hurdles (15.28 sec) and the Long Jump (21 ft. 0.25 in.), before finishing his perfect 4-for-4 day in the 300 Meter Hurdles in 41.59 seconds.
“Richard’s really a talented, talented athlete,” said Central Boys Track & Field Head Coach Bruce Mowry. “He’s really still pretty young in his events and he’s come a long way over the last year and a half learning how to hurdle and how to compete in his jumps. He’s a kid that’s really got kinda unlimited potential and we really look for big things from him here in the next year.”
In addition to competing in Outdoor Track & Field, Richard also played football, wrestled, and competed in Indoor Track & Field for Central this year.
Congratulations to Richard Prescott, Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week.
