United Way highlight Human Trafficking Webinar
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - If you are looking for new ways to keep your family and loved ones safe, the United Way of Laramie County is holding a new webinar and campaign you may be interested in.
United Way is hosting a webinar on Wednesday, April 13, at 1 pm. to help increase community awareness about Human Trafficking.
This is part of a global campaign to highlight this issue and educate the public on how to stay safe.
“I think this gives us an opportunity to learn something new in this process. But also to just raise awareness. Are we aware of what’s going on around us,” said Vernon Dobelmann, Executive Director of United Way of Laramie County.
Some of Wyoming’s major interstates are I-80 and I-25, which make transporting people across state lines easily undetectable.
And with major tourism seasons, the state is ideal for supplying the demand of the trafficking industry.
The online class will include guest speakers, who are survivors of Human Trafficking to give their first-hand accounts of what to look out for, and their own stories.
“Is that there will be survivors and they will be giving us tips of what to look for and all of that so i think it’ll be very first-hand account so it’s not just going to be theory, it’s going to be very practical,” said Dobelmann.
The Human Trafficking industry includes forced or coerced sex trafficking, forced labor and forced or coerced marriage.
Human trafficking is a $150 Billion industry, with 40 million people in it, and 25 percent are children.
