CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Wednesday marked the first day of the Wyoming FFA Convention. The four-day event consists of various contests, performances and special guests.

“We kicked off our 95th Annual Wyoming FFA State Convention,” said FFA State Reporter, Skylar Tharp. “It is going on until this Saturday, we have four jam-packed sessions full of awards, keynote speakers, retiring addresses from our state officers, and just so much more fun with that type of stuff. It is amazing to get those members to meet other members from other chapters and be able to get that networking area out there and get to meet new people.”

The FFA aims to make a positive impact on students lives through agricultural education. Members have career development evaluations for meats, poultry and livestock, as well as leadership development opportunities, such as public speaking.

Tharp said being in the program for seven years has been a life-changing experience.

“It has also helped me build that confidence level and also help me grow a deep love for the agricultural industry. I think that every member who walks in with a blue jacket, comes out with a much more family than they came in with and so it is just one big family,” Tharp said.

The convention will run through Saturday, April 9.
