Prep Athlete of the Week: Taliah Morris
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - She’s only a sophomore, yet Taliah Morris is already one of the most decorated athletes in the state. Cheyenne East Track & Field star Taliah Morris is the Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week.
Taliah is a three-time All-State selection (2021 Indoor Track, 2021 Outdoor Track, 2022 Indoor Track) and is a three-time state champion. Taliah won the 55-Meter Dash crown at the 2021 Indoor Track & Field State Championships and is the reigning Outdoor Track & Field state champ in the 200-Meter Dash and the Long Jump.
This is Taliah’s third Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week award. She was first selected as a junior high student in 2019 and last won on April 26, 2021. Taliah was also one of four student-athletes to be named a 2020-2021 Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Year over the summer.
The road has not been easy for Taliah of late. The East High sophomore hurt her ankle six months ago, needed surgery, and was on crutches for almost three months.
“It was really hard to be out because I went to all the indoor meets like to just kinda see how everyone’s doing and it just really made me upset because I wish I was out there competing and everything, but you know it really taught me to like really listen to my body,” said Taliah Morris.
Taliah was able to make it back for three Indoor meets and was the state runner-up in the 55-Meter Dash. She is now back to her winning ways in Outdoor season, as on Friday, at the Wheatland Invite, Taliah came in first place individually in the 100-Meter Dash and Long Jump. She was also on the winning 4x100 Relay team.
“Not being able to run like almost killed me, I felt like,” said Taliah Morris. “Track is like one of my greatest passions...so being back really like makes me a whole new person.”
Congratulation to Taliah Morris, 3x Prep Athlete of the Week.
*VIDEO CORRECTION: It was discovered after further research that Taliah was named Prep Athlete of the Week in 2019 and this was her third award, not her second.
