CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - On National Signing Day, two of Natrona County High School’s best football players from this past season inked their national letters of intent. It was the largest contingent of Mustang students of the school year to come out and support their two classmates at a signing ceremony.

All-State Offensive and Defensive Lineman Brendyn Nelson made his commitment official to Hastings College. Hastings is a member of the Great Plains Conference in the NAIA.

“Just the community and the campus overall [were] really amazing,” said Nelson about choosing Hastings after making a visit. “I mean the coaches were super nice, and then they had some players that we got to meet and they were all just super welcoming and it just felt like a really good place that I wanted to be.”

The other Mustang that made his commitment was Kaeden Wilcox, a former Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week.

Wilcox finished his high school career on the gridiron as a two-time all-state football selection on the defense, and he was the 4A Defensive Player of the Year after the 2021 season.

In addition to his football exploits, Wilcox has been a state champion wrestler and power hitter for the Casper Oilers baseball team.

He chose to sign with Chadron State for football on Wednesday. He grinned as he acknowledged the signing day pageantry was part of his decision to play football.

“I’ve always wanted to play at the next level whether it be football, baseball, or wrestling, and I’m just excited to go play college ball,” added Wilcox about his excitement to play college football.

Wilcox also said he will continue to play for the Oilers this summer.

Congratulations to both Nelson and Wilcox and their families.
