Kelly Walsh takes home three state titles at State Spirit Competition
CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - State championship hardware was on the line in Casper on Friday. High school cheerleaders and dancers gathered at the Ford Wyoming Center to compete in the State Spirit Competition.
Cheerleaders were competing in the all-girl, co-ed and gameday categories, and dancers showed off their routines in hip-hop and jazz.
It became a banner day for Kelly Walsh High School. The cheerleaders took home their first state title since 2017 when they won the 4A state title for all-girl cheer with a final score of 83.200.
The Trojan dancers were trying to atone for second-place finishes in both 4A categories last year, and they were able to do just that. They won by a hair in jazz dance with a final score of 89.150, which was less than .2 points ahead of Evanston.
The margin wasn’t as tight in hip hop dance where the team scored 94.300.
Cheyenne South won another state title in the gameday cheer category at 4A, and Wheatland won the 3A gameday cheer state championship.
