Cool Today, Warm Weekend Ahead
27 January 2022
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - After getting a little bit of snow in the southern regions of the state, some of those isolated snow showers are still sticking around the region as we go into the evening. By tonight, most of that will clear up and strong winds will help push it out of the state. That leads us over the next few days where we are going to be dominated by high pressure allowing for very little cloud cover as well as much warmer temperatures.
Those temperatures will warm up due to strong winds coming from the west. By strong winds, I mean gusts over 40 MPH are expected for the central and southeastern portions of the state for the next few days. While temperatures will be on the warmer end and most of the leftover snow will melt away, we do need to be cautious about travel impacts. It is certainly possible that we can see some partial closures on isolated regions of the highway for high profile vehicles. Today, there are a number of moderate and high delays due to snow, ice and overall slick conditions.
Overnight tonight, those clouds will begin moving out but temperatures will be below average due tot he passage of the cold front. Temperatures will be in the teens, single digits, and negatives for the far western side of the state. Tomorrow, skies will clear up allowing for the sun and wind to bring in those warmer temperatures. More seasonable conditions are expected with temperatures ranging from the low 40s and upper 30s for the eastern side with 20s out to the west and higher elevations. Looking ahead to the weekend, the warmest day is expected to be on Sunday with conditions cooling down again with the next cold front and round of snow expected early next week.
