CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - On Jan. 15th, a semi-trailer truck hit an ice patch in Laramie, causing it to lose control and damaging a column of the I-80 bridge.

Bridge engineers are currently working on options for the repair and reconstruction.

“We just want to make sure everything is structurally sound for the general public so we’re still in the design phase,” said Andrea Staley- Senior Public Relations Specialist-WYDOT.

Currently, the east-bound exit of the bridge is closed, but the east-bound entrance is still open.

Travelers on Grand Avenue are being re-directed to Curtis or 3rd street. They are looking at possible temporary fixes while organizing a complete design rebuild.

Yet it looks like it will be a long-term closure while they work on re-construction.

“With a big kind of bridge design or repair there’s processes we have to go through so, we have to do the re=design we have to get it approved and then we have to get it open to bid, for any bridge contractors to do the work so, as fast as we want it to be open, it does have to kind of go through a process,” said Staley

WYDOT recommends checking WYO Road.Info and WYO 511 for the most current driving conditions. W
