CASPER, Wyo. (Release) - At approximately 1:30 PM today, Casper Fire-EMS was called to a structure fire at 100 E. B Street, The Cheney Federal Building. Crews were advised of fire involving electric equipment in the basement. Crews arrived and found significant smoke in the basement and located electrical equipment that had been involved in a fire. Power was disconnected to the building and the affected equipment de-energized to control additional hazard. Firefighters then searched the building to assure no victims as well as ventilate smoke from all levels.

No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. Damage was limited to the electrical equipment the fire originated in. Occupants were allowed to return to the building although power remains off in the building until damage assessment and repairs can be made. An investigation will be completed by a Federal Fire Marshall. Casper Fire-EMS will assist as necessary.

Because of the size and complexity of the building, all CasperFire-EMS resources initially responded. Additionally, mutual aid was provided by The Natrona County Fire Protection District and Evansville Fire-EMS. Crews were also assisted by Casper Public Safety Communications Center, Casper Police, Wyoming Medical Center, Rocky Mountain Power, Federal Maintenance Personnel, and Federal Security Personnel.
