Prep Athlete of the Week: Keagan Bartlett
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Keagan Bartlett is the first Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week in 2022.
Bartlett has earned the honor after going 4-0 en route to winning the 220-pound weight class at the Shane Shatto Memorial Tournament.
“The first match was kind of tough,” said Bartlett. “We hadn’t wrestled for two days because of the snowstorm. Once that one got out of the way, I just felt like I got right back into the groove.”
Bartlett joins Jake Rayl and Kira Brownell as the only student-athletes to be named Prep Athlete of the Week twice since Nick Kuzma became the Wyoming News Now Sports Anchor in September 2020. He was last Prep Athlete of the Week on October 25 after a six-total touchdown performance to clinch the final state playoff spot for the Central Football team.
At Cheyenne East last year, Bartlett was the state runner-up in the 182 weight class. Now, as an Indian wrestler, he wrestles at 220 and has ascended into a leadership role.
“I think it’s just part of his personality is to lead and he leads not just by words but action,” said Central Wrestling Head Coach Kyle Brightman. “He’s had success and I think kids see that. You take someone’s word who’s been there, done that..that word brings a little bit more weight maybe.”
Congratulations to Keagan Bartlett, Wyoming News Now Prep Athlete of the Week.
