Warm and Calm
9 January 2022
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - After all the activity over the past week given the winter storm, heavy snowfall, and heatwaves beforehand, it is nice to return back to the middle. Today, most regions saw average temperatures for highs and lows with very little cloud cover and no precipitation. It was also calm, not only just by precipitation and temperature standards, but also by the wind. Gusts were slowly starting to calm down as we went into the evening hours. If you enjoy these warm and calm conditions, then this will certainly be the week to spend outside or finish any outdoor projects. Clouds will be very minimal tomorrow and even be the same going into Tuesday. The next chance for precipitation won’t be until the end of the week.
Gusts are usually strong this time of year causing a big drop in our wind chill values and causing a number of traffic delays. While gusts can reach up to 30 MPH in the central regions of the state, it is certainly not enough to cause any significant issues. One thing to be noticed is that the winds will be coming from the southwest. That is where a lot of the warm air is resulting in the temperature increase throughout the week.
Overnight tonight, expect mostly clear skies and very mild temperatures. Nothing too significant, but be sure to take it easy when driving as patchy ice is still an issue. Tomorrow, temperatures are warming up to above average conditions, with very little cloud cover expected. Gusts will be picking up slightly in the central regions, but nothing out of the ordinary by Wyoming standards. Overall, a nice, clear and warm week ahead.
