CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Every day the Food Bank of Wyoming distributes over 25,000 meals across the state. They serve all 23 counties in Wyoming, from their distribution center in Casper.

“We are distributing boxes in every pocket and corner part of Wyoming that you can think of, we are out there,” said Food Bank of Wyoming Development Manager Jill Stillwagon.

Feeding America projects that in Wyoming 1 in 8 adults and 1 in 6 children are food insecure. The number of people facing food insecurity has increased since the start of the pandemic.

Many people sign up to volunteer around the holidays, but from January to March, those numbers decrease.

“We need volunteer support day in and day out. Food insecurity is not just an issue during the holidays, it’s consistent year-round,” said Stillwagon.

The Packing OUT Hunger volunteer opportunity helps the food bank pack about 2500 meal boxes that are delivered around Wyoming to hunger relief partners who distribute the food within their communities. Each box is filled with 15-20 shelf-stable food items.

Every month, volunteers are needed to help pack the boxes that are distributed around Wyoming. Without volunteers, the boxes are not packed or delivered on time to those in need.

According to the food bank, the most impactful ways to help are through volunteering, financial donations, and sharing food assistance resources with community members. All the money donated in Wyoming stays in Wyoming to help fight food insecurity across the state.

Individuals or groups can sign up to volunteer at the Food Bank of Wyoming website. Volunteers can sign up to help once or schedule into the future.
