CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Omicron variant of Covid-19 is in Laramie County.

According to the Cheyenne Laramie County Health Department, there are 9 cases, 5 cases from yesterday are from patients under 34 years old, and 2 are children.

“If we cant make Covid go away, at least we can do everything we can to be healthy and protected if we get it, so that we can come out the other side ok,” said Kathy Emmons, Executive Director for the Cheyenne Laramie County Health Department.

The omicron variant is highly contagious. It doubles every 3 days and is expected to grow across the state.

Like the other variants, Omicron mimics Covid’s major symptoms, except Omicron patients complain of more sore throats.

The Health Department recommends that folks get vaccinated and boosted to have the best chance of staying out of the ICU and off ventilators.

Vaccine mandates and OSHA regulations surrounding Covid will go to the Supreme Court on Friday to request a stay on *required vaccinations*.

“We have to look at the intent behind it. The intent is not to control, it’s not to be heavy-handed, it’s to say here is the information please take it and keep yourself safe, keep our community safe, be a good community member, be a good family member,” said Emmons.

6 weeks ago, Governor Gordon sent the Wyoming National Guard to assist hospitals when they were at their capacity.
