CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - On January 4, 2022 the Casper city council held their first meeting of the new year. During the meeting the new Mayor and Vice Mayor were officially sworn into their positions for the year.

Former Mayor of Casper, Steve Freel, was sworn into the position of Vice Mayor while former Vice Mayor, Ray Pacheco, was sworn in as the new Mayor of Casper.

Mayor Pacheco did not have an easy meeting though to kick off the new year. During the public comment portion of the meeting one speaker caused a disruption that forced the on duty police to intervene. All people present in the council chambers were asked to clear the room while the situation was handled. Casper Police Chief Keith McPheeters was able to peacefully resolve the situation and have the citizen leave without further incident. Following the disruption the meeting went on as scheduled.

Newly Elected Mayor Ray Pacheco, who also served as Mayor in 2018, said that his experience in both the mayoral and vice mayoral positions will help the council to overcome any obstacles they may face in the coming year. He also noted that having the former two term mayor, Steve Freel, as his Vice Mayor will be an invaluable asset for 2022.
