CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Laramie County Fire District 1 has a new fire brush truck that will help stop grass fires in Laramie County.
“Really it’s with grass fires, it’s a year-round occurrence here. Even though there’s snow on the ground. Make sure you’re picking up around your house and you’re making wise decisions. Whether you’re burning debris, taking care of yard waste. Having fun with fireworks. Anything like that if you’re out in the county,” said Darrick Mittlestadt, Fire Chief, LCFD1
The district was awarded money with support from the Laramie County commissioners through the impact fee of the Gateway West Transmission Line Project.
The fire district is also getting a water truck and rescue equipment.
In Wyoming, fire districts are granted funds from 3 mill levies. Meaning budgets for fire districts get tighter as populations and residential areas grow.
“It benefited the entire county the wind energy project did. Even though that project is almost done we’ve been able to collect all the funding and we’re able to purchase this nice brush truck. And bring the next level of protection not only to fire district one but the city of Cheyenne,” said Mittlestadt.
The additional truck will combat fires over 3 fire districts.
