CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Visit Cheyenne is holding their ball drop to ring in 2022 at Cheyenne’s Civic Commons.

It’s happening across from the mayor’s/city office, starting at 11:50 pm Friday.

“The ball was made for us welded here in Cheyenne when the ball started 11 years ago. The ball is covered with all of these net lights, probably 5-thousand lights at least,” said Tia Fitzgerald, Events Coordinator, Visit Cheyenne.

There will be fireworks, music and the ball drop on Friday at midnight.

This is the 11th annual ball drop. Organizers anticipate typical Wyoming winter winds, so dress accordingly.

The event is scheduled to go forward as planned, despite snow or wind.

Organizers anticipate a couple of thousand people to show up for tonight’s event.

“I think this is the only ball drop in the entire state of Wyoming and being on our 11th year i think it’s really special that Cheyenne does this so just hope people come out to see it,” said Laura Levi, Office manager, Visit Cheyenne.

The event involves the fire departments, city departments, and fireworks and crane folks and takes 2-months to help create the event safely.
