CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Those colder temperatures continue to run the state and even plan to continue dropping heading towards the New Year. Right now, we have the cold front that moved through stalled out over the state. As a result, a lot of moisture still remains in the atmosphere meaning more snow, especially for the western regions of Wyoming. There is also a low pressure system directly over the central regions meaning strong wind gusts will cause rolling closures on roads for high profile vehicles and areas where there is already snow, blowing snow, whiteout conditions, and poor visibility for driving. A secondary front to the southwest will bring a line of snow showers across the state going into the late evening and early overnight hours. Not a significant amount of snowfall is expected for the big cities, but the higher elevations and mountain ranges can expect at least and inch or more.

Strong gusts across the central regions today aren’t necessarily causing travel delays because of the lack of snow accumulation, but they are causing the wind chills to drop down into the single digits and even negatives in some areas. It is the day where bringing a windbreaker is a must. Good news is that the winds will be calming back down tomorrow to just breezy conditions, allowing for less significant road delays and closures as well as more bearable wind chill values.

Overnight tonight, expect mostly cloudy skies around the state as the stationary front is expected to sit over top of us for a little bit longer. Expect some isolated snow showers as well with whatever falls sticking as temperatures tonight will all be well below the freezing point with a few reaching the negatives. Tomorrow, temperatures will be even colder than today with all areas staying at or below the freezing point. These cold temperatures are expected to stuck around for the next few days with a slight warm up on Thursday before dropping off again by the new year.
