CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) -Tis’ the season for laughter, generosity and giving.

So the Wyoming Department of Transportation along with The Boy’s and Girl’s Club are doing just that.

The WYDOT employees in Cheyenne collected bikes for the holiday season.

This is WYDOT’s 5th year getting bikes for kids.

“It’s really special that we could kind of give back to the community this way, and we’re happy with how it went,” said Jordan Achs, Public Relations Specialist- WYDOT.

Close to 30 bikes were donated to the Boy’s and Girl’s Club, along with the Fire and Rescue Department of Cheyenne.

“We just wanted to contribute to our community, and make sure everyone had a nice holiday season,” said Achs.

The club was fortunate to receive the bike donation as well as toys, food and essentials from several organizations and individual members.

“This week at the club is all about Christmas, and just spreading joy and positivity. So with support from these amazing community partners, we’ve been able to hand out bikes, Christmas presents, meal kits, wrapping paper, and just all sorts of holiday goodies,” said Amanda Fiske, Director of Development, the Boys and Girls Club.

Many families still need help making ends meet to make this season bright.

“Covid has impacted everyone differently even some who have been financially stable in past years they really feeling it and they’re wondering how to make this a meaningful and special Christmas for their families. So I think that’s an opportunity for the club and our community partners to step in and recognize those challenges and say ‘we know what your going through and we want to make this a special time no matter what the circumstances,” said Fiske.

And giving back is a great way to make a positive difference.

“This Christmas has really been special for all of us at the club. We’ve seen so many smiles here. So many happy families, I know even reading thank you notes from some of our families earlier in the week, we were all tearing up just hearing some of the stories and just how much of a difference these bikes and these donations have made,” said Fiske.

Just by taking the time to give of ourselves, we help make the season brighter for someone else.
