The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Drive gets competitive for the holiday season
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Salvation Army is having their last push, for their year-end fund-raiser.
And it’s getting a little competitive, but for a good cause.
“It is a true gift to be able to just be able to be hope for someone else... because I know what it is to be hopeless,” said Crystal Smoak, Core Officer, Cheyenne Salvation Army.
Each year the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle season starts a week before Thanksgiving and goes till Christmas Eve.
Every station unit of the Salvation Army is self-sufficient, meaning their kettle drive is their biggest fund-raiser.
These kettles determine how many services they can provide the community each year.
All Thanksgiving dinners, community lunches, senior food boxes, disaster relief, and social services, get paid out of these funds.
The year-end kettle drive will be at various locations, across Cheyenne, and ends on Christmas Eve, at 2 pm.
The Salvation Army is holding a competition between kettle collectors, and the winner with the most money will win a gift card and bragging rights for the year.
“It’s just a fun way to finish strong and just and support the community and brag for the rest of the year, so I’m totally going to win, so come find me somewhere.” said Smoak. “We just want to thank you again all so much because we truly could not do what we do without you. You are a gift to us at the Salvation Army and to this community and it is an honor to serve you.”
The Cheyenne Salvation Army’s Red Kettle fundraiser locations will be at the Del Range King Soopers, Del Range Sam’s, Del Range Walmart and the Yellowstone Albertsons.
