CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Officers celebrated the season of giving with Shop With a Cop at the Livingston Walmart Friday afternoon.

“We have been doing Shop with a Cop with Laramie County Law Enforcement since 2015,” said Highway Patrol Sergeant, Jeremy Beck.

The Shop With a Cop program was created to assist families in need while also building trust between officers and local children. Thirty-one students were hand-picked from LCSD1 and 2 to spend $150 on Christmas presents.

“I bought things for my cousins and some things for me,” said Olivia, age 9.

Kids were able to experience the joy of shopping, and some even used the opportunity to give to their families.

“Now I get to see them enjoy the presents I bought them,” Zayne, age 11.

Officers helped the kids pick out the perfect Christmas presents, and enjoyed seeing the excitement.

“It’s cool to be able to see the kids excited, to be able to come in and buy some presents for them and their family. A lot of times, the kids go around and buy things for their family members as well as themselves but it is just such a special time for law enforcement to be able to participate in this,” said Beck.

And while shopping was a blast, some kids said the highlight of their day was getting to spend time with a law enforcement officer.

“It is cool to hang out with people that protect the state and the country, I just loved it,” said Baylor, age 12.

And each participant even received a personalized license plate to remember the experience.
