CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The Cheyenne South Bison got off to a slow start against Green River on Saturday in Casper trailing after the first quarter, but they put themselves in gear and coasted to a 70-55 victory over the Wolves.

With the win, the Bison gained their first 3-0 start to a boys basketball season since 2016-17.

Monster performances from seniors Maurie Alexander and LeeAndre Ray helped propel the team this weekend at the Oil City Tip-off. Alexander finished with 24 points in Saturday’s win, and Ray chipped in 21 to go along with some nice assists.

Ray, whose star shined bright all weekend with his play, said this is a “good start” for the Bison.

“I think we need to build and get even better because 3-0 is not us in the state championship or even making it to state,” said Ray after the game on Saturday. “We still have a lot of stuff to work on and get better at. I just think as long as we get better game by game. That’s all that matters.”

The Lady Bison also faced off against Green River on Saturday, but they would fall 65-16.

Both South schools will be back in action on Thursday against Mountain View.
