Big Cool Down
5 December 2021
CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The cold front made it’s way through the state today cooling us off big time and bringing a dusting of snow to many of the cities. We started off the day with temperatures on the warmer side, then as the front moved through, temperatures took a tumble with many regions not getting past the 20s especially considering the wind chill. While temperatures fell off, the snow won’t be much of an issue until later in the week. The cold front that was moving through has now stalled out. This means that we can see mostly cloudy skies throughout the week, but much of the snow will be sticking the mountains all around the state. Temperatures will be warming up slightly going toward the middle of the week before another drop off by Thursday and Friday with an increase in our snow chances.
That Wyoming wind was certainly not letting up today with gusts getting up to 60, 70 or even 80 MPH, especially near Elk Mountain. This has lead to our wind chills in the overnight hours getting down into the negatives in some of the cities. No surprise here, but it also led to a number of highway and interstate closures and delays. The blowing snow did not help with that either. They will still be strong tomorrow, but not as bad as what we saw today. Stay tuned as I will update you during the shows regarding any of the delays and closures.
Overnight tonight, temperatures will drop down into the 10s and 20s for much of the state with the west being the warmest as the front stalled out before reaching that area. Tomorrow, temperatures will be on the cool side compared to the last few days, but slowly warming up going towards the middle of the week keeping those mostly cloudy skies and breezy conditions.
