CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - The toy aisles in Walmart were full of children, law enforcement, carts, and laughter at Shop with a Cop. The 14th annual event is a highlight to many in the community.

“A lot of the officers who come out and do this, this is our favorite time of year. We get to recharge the batteries, connect with people on a different level than we normally do throughout the rest of the year,” said Jeff Bullard, a Casper Police Department officer.

The holiday season can be hard for many people, and whether it is job loss, poverty, or sickness in the family, officers want to ensure everyone has a chance to have a Christmas they will remember. Children receive one-on-one time with an officer picking out a variety of gifts.

“I’m looking for barbies,” said Teagan Carno, a participant at Shop with a Cop.

This year’s Shop with a Cop was the largest to date in Natrona County with over 600 applicants. 270 of those children were selected to participate with a 60 dollar gift card provided by donations from community members.

“The generous donations that we received this year far exceeded what we’ve had for money in the past,” said Bullard.

With these generous donations, families are able to give their children a memorable experience.

“That I get to shop with a cop,” said Carno.

But it’s not just the kids who walk away from the day smiling.

“You get to come out and spend some time with some r4aelly cool kids and it’ just leave the day happier,” said Terry Good, a Casper Police Department officer.
