CHEYENNE, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - On November 15, the first Wyoming News High School Football Now Play of the Year nomination was posted on Facebook and it was immediately flooded with interactions on the KGWN Facebook page.

However, the athlete who made the play did not know about being nominated until the next day when he was told at school.

“I just thought it was really cool,” said East Senior Defensive Back Kaleb Romero. “I was like ‘dang’ and just scrolling [on Facebook] through all the people that liked it, it was just awesome seeing all the people voting for me, showing me love all that stuff. So, yeah, it was definitely a surprise.”

180 combined likes and thousands of views later, Romero’s game-sealing pass break up against Cheyenne Central became the Wyoming News Now High School Football Play of the Year.

With the Haily Mary attempt thwarted, Romero’s T-Birds defeated Central 33-27, winning their sixth consecutive Capital City Bowl.

“At first, once that play was over, I had no idea what I just did,” said Romero. I didn’t fully take in the moment until once that [Central-East rivalry] trophy was presented at midfield. It was a cool play. Definitely one of the most memorable plays of my career.”

Romero’s dream is to play Division I college football and his Play of the Year can be viewed in the attached video.

Congratulation to Kaleb Romero for making the Wyoming News High School Football Now Play of the Year.
