CASPER, Wyo. (Wyoming News Now) - Thursday was a signature day for Kelly Walsh’s Elayna Chafee. She made her pledge to the University of Wyoming track team official.

Chafee signed her letter of intent inside the Kelly Walsh team room with her family at her sides and the room full of friends and teammates.

In the spring of 2021, Chafee took home the 4A girl’s state title in the triple jump. She chose Wyoming after looking at Montana State, Utah and others.

Chafee said signing with UW is something she feels like she had been working towards.

“Just growing up here and going to UW when I was a kid for games and stuff, and now being able to go there is really exciting,” said Chafee after putting pen to paper.

Chafee’s father also said he was “happy” to have Elayna staying close to home. She said she will major in kinesiology in Laramie.
